 Main aims of the job:

  •  Maintaining a stimulating environment.
  •  Promoting personal and physical independence.

Key responsibilities:

Assisting in the direct care of all aspects of the service users assessed needs, which may include:

  •  Assisting residents in washing, dressing and undressing.
  •  Basic nursing care of the residents – bed bathing, pressure area, mouth care, and eye care, under trained staff supervision.
  •  Emptying aids.
  •  Changing beds and tidying residents’ rooms.
  •  Serving meals and drinks.
  •  Feeding residents who are unable to feed themselves.
  •  Ensuring each resident receives the meal or diet they request and is suitable for their needs.
  •  Assisting problems with mobility, including those of mobility aids.
  •  Assisting in weighing of residents.
  •  Helping with the admission and discharge of residents.
  •  Conveying relevant information to regularly update individual plans.
  •  Reporting any accidents or incidents to staff in charge.
  •  Attending appropriate training programmes and courses.
  •  Answering phone calls clearly, contacting staff in charge immediately.
  •  Maintain confidentiality regarding resident’s particulars.
  •  Assisting in activities.
  •  Undertaking any other duties required.

 General expectations:

  •  Attending all staff meetings and training that is required.
  •  Attending all supervision and appraisals, being fully prepared beforehand.
  •  Assisting with domestic duties in the home, such as cooking cleaning and laundry when needed.
  •  Effective communication with staff, visitors and residents.
  •  Be familiar with all procedures and current policies.
  •  Be fully aware of food hygiene regulations and fire policy.
  •  Ensuring that all information of a confidential nature is never divulged to third parties.
  •  Keeping all records of all domestic work completed after each shift in the appropriate book.

 Health and safety expectations:

  •  Ensuring you work in a safe environment following the Health and Safety at Work Act.
  •  Assisting in the maintenance of a Safe and Healthy Working Environment.
  •  Understanding and adhering to the Homes’ Health and Safety Policy and Procedures including Fire.
  •  Practising and promoting safe working practices.
  •  Taking full responsibility for your own health and safety and that of others.
  •  Being aware and comply with infection control policies and procedures.
  •  Reporting any illness or accidents immediately to the Nurse in charge.
  •  Reporting any faults, faulty appliances, damaged furniture or equipment and any potential hazards to staff in charge.

 Qualifications, training and experience we are looking for:

 Basic experience in a nursing environment.

 Genuine interest for older people.

 Willing to participate in National Vocational Training Programmes.

 Excellent communication skills.

Senior Duties

Take day-to-day management responsibility for the establishment by:

Staff Management

 Providing guidance, instruction, and supervision to qualified and unqualified staff.

 Making sure all new care assistants are given a comprehensive induction.

 Ensuring staff are aware of the high standard required.

 Fully supporting staff throughout their employment.

 Ensure the rota is covered for upcoming shifts.

 Creating Complete Personal Development Plans and personnel paperwork.

The Home

 Taking responsibility and accountability.

 Being fully aware of the financial matters associated with the running and upkeep, as well as obtaining the maximum benefit from available funds.

 Taking responsibility for the presentation and appearance of the establishment.

 Maintaining the high standard of equipment and facilities in line with the requirements of the Company.

Communication

 Supporting the Manager in meeting the Company’s policies.

 Ensuring all staff are working to company policies and procedures.

 Promoting company initiatives.

 Keeping managers up to date on any ongoing issues regularly.

 Nursing Care & Support

 Assessing, planning and implementing a high standard of direct nursing care to the service users.

 Administering medication for service users in line with NMC and company policy.

 Providing hourly checks of service users, checking vital signs and medical information.

 Taking the clinical lead with individual service users in respect of tissue viability, pressure relief, nutrition, continence and wound management.

 Liaising with the GP, chiropodist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist and other members of the primary care team.

 Facilitating the admission and discharge of service users.

 Building excellent relationships with service users and their relatives.

Displaying great communication and listening skills.

Ensuring support networks are informed of significant changes in a service user’s condition.

 Having the responsibility for planning care and implementing personal care plans.

 Displaying accurate, clear and concise communication skills.

 Maintaining and updating records as required.

 Documenting any interventions in line with professional (NMC) guidelines.

 Health & Safety

 Identifying risks within the establishment and reporting them to the appropriate senior staff member immediately.

 Being aware of emergency procedures.

 Using manual handling techniques and equipment safely and correctly.

 Wearing the correct uniform and personal protective equipment (PPE) associated with the task and role you are carrying out.

 Teamwork

 Being able to work efficiently as a team.
